Short Course

Short courses are designed to provide sufficient content in a short period of time to meet specific needs in the workplace environment. There are no credits awarded for these programmes.

Skills Programmes

Skills programmes are aimed at building occupationally based skills and when completed will constitute credits towards a qualification registered in terms of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). The time taken to complete a skills programme depends on the time required to achieve the programme outcomes.

eLearning

eLearning is learning utilising electronic technologies to access learning programmes outside of a traditional classroom. It refers to a training programme completed entirely online.

What is Online Learning?

Online Learning utilises digital technologies (electronic tools, systems, devices) to generate, store and process data. Online Learning programmes can be accessed through a tablet, cellular phone, personal computer, or laptop. In most cases “online” refers to a programme or course controlled by or connected to a computer, and not in a traditional classroom setting.

What is Instructional Design?

Instructional Design is the creation of learning experiences and material that will result in a learner gaining theoretical knowledge and the skills to apply this knowledge in a practical way. KBC Instructional Designers use the ADDIE (Analyse, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate) method as a framework in designing and developing training programmes.

What is Blended Learning?

Blended Learning is an approach to learning that combines Online Learning concepts (computer-based material and opportunities for interaction online) with traditional classroom pedagogical methods. It requires the physical presence of both the facilitator and the learner, with some elements of learner control over time, place, path, or pace.

What is Instructor-led Training (ILT)?

Instructor-led Training is any training that occurs in a training room. This form of training requires a facilitator who will train learners on the programme outcomes using a presentation and a variety of classroom activities. Classroom activities include quizzes, case studies, role-plays, group discussions and practical exercises to name a few.

What is Microlearning?

Microlearning is information that is broken down into bite-sized nuggets, designed to meet a specific outcome. These nuggets can be uploaded to a Learner Management System for learners to view on a digital platform or through a QR (Quick Response) Code.
